Before You Came Along

This poem is for Project OpenBook, a community-built children’s book. Details below.

Before you came along
‘Twas me and dad and mom.
Our life was just so simple
Before your dumb ol’ dimple.

With all your constant eating
We forgot trick-or-treating.
And when it seems you can’t get riper
Then you fill another diaper.

But then when I am waking
To the sounds that you are making,
I think about your hugging
And forget about your bugging.

Then I sing a little song
‘Cause together we belong.
And I know that it was wrong
Before you came along.

The little boy on the swing looks just like Thing 2. Sweet.
  • ...Except he has both shoes on! Thing 2 is going through a "only 1 shoe please" phase.

    Thanks Judy!

I should frame this and hang it up in the boys' rooms---how sweet!!!
  • And there are even moments when this is true, right Beth?!

I had read this one while you were working on it and loved it then too!
