Spring!
This poem is for Project OpenBook, a community-built children’s book. Details below.
Spring!
I never realize
how much I miss you
until you stop by again –
blue sky,
birdsong,
daffodil,
bright sun like a gift
waiting to be newly opened
every day.
I like winter,
like bundling up
in wool and flannel,
scarved and mittened
against the chill.
Love snow.
But there’s that head-bowed,
heavy-booted trudging toward . . .
something.
Something unspoken,
unknown,
until –
Spring!
Takes me by surprise
every time.
