Book-Inspired Halloween Costumes for Little Readers
What could be better than book-inspired Halloween costumes for little ones?
We sure can’t think of anything!
Little kids can spend hours reading with mom and dad and getting lost in their favorite story.
Halloween is the perfect time to help them bring those favorite storybook characters to life.
Read on for some our favorite ideas for book-inspired Halloween costumes.
Anything Dr. Seuss
Any book-inspired Halloween costume list (really ANY costume list) starts with Dr. Seuss.
The colorful characters from his stories were made for dress-up: siblings as Thing 1 and Thing 2; The Cat in the Hat, or how about One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish as a group costume?

Following Featherbottom
We might be a little biased, but we think a little one in a stork costume is pretty adorable.
If your child loves traveling the world with Felix Featherbottom as much as we do, a stork costume and some goggles make a pretty cute pair.
Check out this artistically crafted stork costume from TreeandVine on Etsy.

Pinkalicious
Pink, pink and more pink.
Pigtails, a tiara, wings and a wand. This is the perfect Halloween costume for a little girl.

Harold and the Purple Crayon
This costume could be as easy as blue onesie PJs (so comfy!) and a purple crayon prop (like this fun GIANT purple crayon pictured below).
Or dress your little one in Harold’s jammies and a sibling as a purple crayon. Get creative with drawings on white t-shirts for the rest of the family.

Go Dog Go
Author P.D. Eastman was a protégé of Dr. Seuss and his books lend themselves to costuming in the same way.
Dog costumes are always cute. “Go on skates or go by bike. Go by foot—run, skip or hike. Go on scooter! Go by skis–bundle up so you don’t freeze.” Jazz up a puppy costume with a hat, scarf, skis, or ride around in a Little Tikes car (we all have–or have had–one of these in our garage, right?).
So many dogs. So much fun!

Pete the Cat
You’re little one will be rockin’ this Halloween just like Pete in a cat costume–or cat makeup, high-top tennis shoes and a guitar.
This seems like the perfect do-it-yourself costume.

Alice in Wonderland
Does big sister like the idea of being Alice in Wonderland in her classic blue dress, white apron and black bow?
Make it a theme and dress up little brother or sister as another one of Lewis Carroll’s other enchanting characters, like a baby white rabbit?
Charlotte’s Web
Fern, in her red dress and messy ponytail, sweet Wilbur the pig, and Charlotte the spider make for a wonderful cast of characters and an equally great costume posse.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Group costumes are always great fun and little kids love it when their parents play dress-up too.
The Wizard of Oz makes the perfect family costume as there really is a character for everyone in this story–pretty shoes for your little princess, scary witch, cute animal costume.
Book-inspired Halloween Costumes
We could write a novel on ideas for costumes that come from books.
Consider writing your own chapter this year and bringing a storybook classic to life for your child this Halloween.
