Build Baby’s Library with the Best Baby Shower Gift

Best Baby Shower Gift

Our oldest turns 14 in six weeks. I don’t pretend to understand how that happened!

The months leading up to his birth were full of doctor appointments, prenatal classes, reading every book about expecting a baby, painting the nursery, agonizing over the perfect name and the list goes on and on and on.

Time was also spent researching what to include on our baby registry. Friends and family threw several baby showers for us and the registry helped them know which gifts would help out the most.

Little did we know how many essential items were needed to get through the first year of baby’s life. The baby sleepers, bottles, breast pump, burp cloths, baby monitor, diapers, wipes (don’t waste your money on the wipe warmer!), stroller, car seat and…

BOOKS! You guessed it. The best baby shower gift we received were books.

An overwhelming amount of research shows reading aloud to your baby from the earliest stage has a multitude of benefits. Reading to them is food for their brain, just like feeding them is food to grow.  It also creates a special bond between parent and child.

We wanted to share our love of reading with our son, but as first-time parents, we had no idea what books were most beloved by parents and children alike. There were a plethora of children’s books on the market and, while our baby probably wouldn’t object to what we were reading him, we wanted to like the books we’d be reading over and over again.

When I found out that guests invited to our baby shower were asked to bring their favorite children’s book in lieu of a card, I was ecstatic. It was the perfect way to start building our baby’s library with books cherished by our family and friends. Guests were also asked to write a note inside the book so we’d remember who it was from each time it was read.

Our son was well on his way to building a library with the books we were gifted. A few favorites that I loved and have memorized over the years were Goodnight Moon, Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?, Where is Baby’s Belly Button? and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

We’ve wanted to help others build their baby’s library and instill a love of reading. That’s why we, too, have given favorite children’s books in lieu of cards for baby shower gifts.

If you know the baby’s name, a memorable book to gift is one of our personalized books. If the name is not known yet, fear not! You can give a personalized book gift card so the parents-to-be can create their own special book.

Personalized Book Gift Card

I’m thankful to have been given advice on how to handle being a first-time mom, but even more thankful I was given the gift of books to inspire a love of reading in my child.

The best baby shower gift is one that keeps on giving. Books truly are gifts that can be opened again and again.
